VMProtect offers a unique ability to add hidden information about the owner of the protected file into the file itself. A watermark is an array of bytes that should be unique for each user. If watermarks are incorporated into the protected file, you can always determine the owner of a leaked copy (for instance, if a cracked program is distributed) and take appropriate action. The watermark database file is stored in “%ApplicationData%/VMProtect Software/VMProtect.dat” for Windows and in “/Users/Shared/VMProtect Software/VMProtect.dat” for macOS.
